WCC’s Transport Project’s website let’s you know what projects are planned and underway to improve biking in Wellington.  You can also have your say and access information and updates on the projects.

Bike parking locations

Check out this google map  for bike parking and bike repair stand locations as of May 2018.  You can request additional locations via the methods shown on this page.

Bike parking policy

None provided.  Although it is clear that Wellington City Council are proactivly installing bike parking throughout the city and are responsive to requests from the public.

The Cycling Master Plan and Framework are available on the WCC website.

Bike parking in the District Plan

Wellington is currently reviewing the future priorities and practice for Transport. Let’s Get Wellington Moving is a joint transport planning project involving Wellington City Council, Greater Wellington Regional Council and the NZ Transport Agency.

Event bike parking

WCC were working on a procedure/programme to supply bike parking at 10 major events last summer with a view to expanding to other events in 2017/2018.

Requesting Bike Parking – The Process

The engineers will investigate the location suggested by the customer and report back. If deemed appropriated, bike parking will be installed.

WCC advise:

“We have limited resources allocated to provide bike parking each year so whenever we receive a request, we want to be sure that there is evidence to support it.”

Bike parking support to non council organisations may be available via the WCC Community on Bikes Fund, and they encourage applications http://wellington.govt.nz/services/community-and-culture/funding/council-funds/communities-on-bikes-fund
